About TechForYou
Why this site exists
Not long ago, a couple in their seventies arrived at a South African airport for a domestic flight. They had booked their tickets online — with some help — but when they got to the airport, everything that followed was a mystery. The check-in kiosk. The digital boarding pass. The email confirmation they couldn’t open because they didn’t have email on their phones.
They weren’t unintelligent. They weren’t incapable. They had simply never been shown how any of it worked — in plain language, without jargon, without the assumption that they already knew things they didn’t.
They got on the flight. But the experience left them shaken, embarrassed, and more convinced than ever that technology wasn’t for people like them.
It is. It just needed someone to explain it properly.
TechForYou was built for them — and for the millions of South Africans who feel the same way. People who want to use their phones and computers with confidence but have never had anyone sit down and explain things clearly, without making them feel behind. People who are tired of being told something is “simple” when nobody has ever shown them how.
What we do
TechForYou is a plain-language technology guide built specifically for South Africans.
Every article on this site is written the way a knowledgeable, patient friend would explain something — not the way a manual would. No jargon without explanation. No steps skipped. No assumption that you already know things you don’t.
We cover the things that actually matter to everyday South African life — smartphones and data bundles, computers and load-shedding, online safety and the scams that are specifically targeting South African communities right now. Not generic international content repurposed for a South African audience. Content written here, for here, from the beginning.
Who we are
TechForYou was started in a sectional title development in the Western Cape — a community that, like most South African communities, included people of every background, age and level of tech confidence. The idea was simple: if we could help our own neighbours feel more confident with technology, we could help anyone.
We are not a large corporation. We are not funded by an advertising network. We do not sell your information to anyone. We are a small team that believes technology literacy is one of the most practical and empowering things a person can gain in South Africa today — and that the only reason more people don’t have it is that nobody has explained it to them properly yet.
That’s what we’re here to fix.
Why it’s free
TechForYou is free to use because it should be. Technology literacy shouldn’t cost money. The people who need it most are often the people least able to pay for it.
We keep the site running and the content growing through a separate service — offering TechForYou as a community resource to residential developments, estates and retirement villages across South Africa who want to provide it to their residents under their own name. If you manage a development and would like to know more, visit our For developments page (to be confirmed) or contact us directly.
Everything on the public site — every article, the jargon buster, Tina the chatbot — is and will remain free.
A note on Tina
You may have noticed Tina — our friendly chat helper in the bottom left corner of every page. Tina is an AI assistant trained specifically on TechForYou’s content. She can answer most tech questions in plain language and will tell you honestly when something is beyond what she can help with over chat.
Tina is not a replacement for human help. For anything urgent — a suspected scam, a banking problem, a device that’s been compromised — please contact your bank or relevant service directly using the number on the back of your card or their official website. Tina can point you in the right direction but for serious matters, a real person is always better.

A note on our content
Everything on TechForYou is written to be as accurate, practical and helpful as possible. But technology changes quickly, and while we update our content regularly, some details — app layouts, menu locations, prices and network codes — may change after an article is published.
Our content is general guidance, not professional advice. For anything involving your finances, your bank accounts, or a suspected scam, always contact your bank or the relevant organisation directly using the number on the back of your card or their official website — not a number from a message or a search result.
TechForYou is not liable for any loss or damage arising from actions taken based on content published on this site. By using this site you agree to our full Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
